BBNU: Kiss on Sangoplasmo
(10 August 2012)
A Polish cassette label called Sangoplasmo just released BBNU's Kiss, a live recording from synagogue in Šamorín, Slovakia. Limited 100, soon in the shop.
Click!

So As review from Vital Weekly
(11 July 2012)
Birds Build Nests Underground (BBNU) started as a duo in 2003 in Prague and the main goal was to create music with old and broken records. Later the turntablists Petr Ferenc and Michal Brunclik started to cooperate with Martin Ježek, who is now responsible for the images of BBNU. The trio is working now in the field of found sound and vision and they work with a double DJ set, 8 mm, 16 mm, 35 mm and KP8 film and slide projectors. The trio doesn't want to be an ordinary DJ/VJ group who create a nice party, but they want to discover and present pure sound and images. The concerts are a interaction between sound and vision. The CD So As is their latest CD after three years and is released by the Polish label Lumberton Trading Company. The CD has four tracks and one short movie of ten minutes which is registration of part of a concert in 2011. That was the day Freddy Mercury died. The movie is a nice combination of home movies and parts of some official movies. The images are well edited together and flow into a melting pot of nostalgic moments. The first track started a jazz-based composition with a lot of horns and trumpets and flows into a rhythm track. I do not know how they manipulate the old records, but is like a drum band is playing. The second track "Ossifying Tonques" is one the most surprising tracks of this year. It starts like the old opera "Einstein on the Beach"of Philip Glass and moves into a industrial vicious beat. Great piece of music and nice combination of different atmospheres. "Axe Loop" is like an anxious walk though different corridors of a hotel and the last track "Smoking Sun" is like a sweet lullaby which will introduce a subtile nightmare. Beautiful album with very creative use of recycling music. (JKH)

SO AS is out!
(13 May 2012)
Joint-released by Lumberton Trading Company and BBNU‘s own Love Nest imprint, So As is the very latest album by this prolific and inventive trio comprising of turntablists Petr Ferenc and Michal Brunclík and filmmaker Martin Ježek. Featuring four pieces and a film by Ježek lasting 10 minutes, this album witnesses BBNU not only honing the craft caught on their previous few releases and live sound but also pushing it into new places as well. The atmospherics and interstellar swirl of textures seen on their recent collaborative LP with My Cat Is An Alien serve as a great starting point to the quasi-dimensional blankets of abstract sound to be found at work here. Limited to 300 in digipak sleeves. Order here.

TWO NEW ALBUMS AT THE SAME TIME...
(15 December 2010)
...something that Bruce Springsteen only dared back in 1992. First one is a collaboration vinyl with Italy's greatest psychedelic duo My Cat Is An Alien and it's called GRAMOFONU = voice of the Universe in honour of a somehow great Czech MC Nezval who guest-stars at the very beginning of the records. This vinyl is limited to 300 pieces. Also there is a split CD with RUiNU. The CD was recorded on 19 September at Babí léto festival in Prague where both bands shared a bill at Polí 5 stage. This CD has two "sisters" as there were six acts on the bill that sunny afternoon. See details of both releases in our Sound & Vison section. To order, email us (infoATbbnuDOTeu) for details. Those who'd like a treat: there will be two release parties on 16 December and 5 January where both releases will be available for special price.

THE MUMPS REFLECTIONS
(22 April 2010)
For this single piece, 34 minute album we crossed paths with Aranos, a Czech native living in Ireland and known for his multiinstrumentalist skills, an ear for anything unusual and collaboration with Nurse With Wound and Current 93. The birdy sound of turntables has met the world: Aranos plays cuico, shakuhachi, daxophone, santoor, straw cimbalom and flugelhorn. He also mixed and mastered the recording. This is a joint-release of our labels Love Nest resp. Pieros so order either from us or Aranos.

BBNU are proud to announce the appearance of their track St. Wave on AUTUMN BLOOD, a compilation CD of Lumberton Trading Company. The good company of the gentlemen and ladies who have so far found themselves joining Lumberton Trading Company for a sherry or two is as follows: Lawrence English, Peter Christopherson, Steven Severin, Volga, Theme, Andrew Liles, Zenial/Banabila, Formication, Sion Orgon, Human Greed with LeeDVD and Colin Potter. (24 March 2009)
Our new album Cold Dreams is out on KLaNGundKRaCH! It is a CDR of home-improvised recordings and has two parts: first one is an eight-minute calm, jazzy collage, then - after two minutes of silence - the journey begins. The second part of the album is more than 30 minutes long and listening to it, you will definitely understand why Michal Brunclík chose this album name. The ice crackles, the wind brings weir echoes and sound hallucinations, the light is painfully sharp. The album is available either from us (drop us an e-mail) or from KLaNGundKRaCH. The release party takes place tonight at Stimul where we are opening for Merzbow.
(3 February 2009)
Long time no update besides the Live section here. Wow. So, folks: happy new year to you all and let's have some good news: First of all, a limted new BBNU album Cold Dreams will appear on KLaNGundKRaCH as a limited CDR. The album will consist of material improvised at our rehearsal space and hopefully will be out on 24th March when we share the bill with Merzbow at Stimul festival. The edition of this recording will not be more that 100 pieces. A Babí léto festival compilation (we played there last summer) will be released as a triple CDR set and - possibly - also as a limited double-LP on Polí pět. And finally, our song St. Wave will be released on a forthcoming Lumberton Trading Company compilation along with Peter Sleazy Christopherson, Steven Severin, Human Greed, Theme, Andrew Liles, Formication, Volga, Lawrence English, Sion Orgon and Zenial. The same label will later release a brand new BBNU album So As. Fingers crossed. And don't forget to check our live section and our space.
(19 August 2008)
...were added in PRESS section of this website. BBNU have started improvising (the last show in Parukářka) was nearly all-improvised and recording their achievments in this field. So far, we sound rougher and harder and have a lot of fun. Come share the fun at our live shows. The forthcoming album (on CD) has still not been finished, these days it is nothing but thought and argued about intensively... perhaps a single will appear earlier... yes, we will let you know. And how are you?

WATCH THE BIRDS IN THEIR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
(26 September 2006)
LEMURIE is an art radio and video streaming project by community of artists, poets, musicians, living and working mostly in Czech Republic. One of their events, on 19 June 2006, saw us play our Night Night program. Watch it here!
(3 August 2006)
Welcome to the bird-nest. Launching of this propaganda weapon saw us preparing our first album NIGHT NIGHT and re-working our sound & approach to turning objects. After a year of playing our first "real" program we felt it was time to get the construction shaken to see which parts of it prove its stability and to be able to tell the basis from ornaments and atmospheric clouds - both of which can always be nice little subjects to change. This year, after releasing NIGHT NIGHT 12-inch vinyl, we are going to work on new songs and recordings, perhaps also make some theatre music and flirt with the glamorous magic of moving pictures. And from October you can see us on stage again, for example on Prague Industrial Festival. We will keep you updated about all the things mentioned above and many many more birds' plays that are to come one day. Please, feel free to contact us, your feedback is important.
